LouCity Ladies sponsor charity giveaway to honor St. Louligans

October 30, 2020

Louisville, Ky. — In a gesture of respect and their mutual love of soccer, the LouCity Ladies supporters group is sponsoring a charity giveaway to honor the St.Louligans, the supporters group of Saint Louis FC. Saint Louis FC announced they would be ceasing operations at the end of the 2020 season to make way for the MLS team that will begin play in 2023.

“This has been a true friendship over five years,” said LCL President Michele Reise. “We could not let it end without honoring the St.Louligans for their devotion to the beautiful game, their tireless efforts towards the betterment of their community, and all the love, laughs, and memories.”

The giveaway will benefit the St.Louligans charity of choice, the Saint Louis Crisis Nursery. The winner will receive an exciting box full of donated Supporters Groups and team swag from the Louisville Supporters Group, Louisville City FC, Racing Louisville FC and numerous other supporters groups and clubs around the United States.

“Their story isn’t over,” noted Reise. ”They’ll be back bigger and better in two years with their MLS team but until then, soccer supporters groups here in Louisville and across the country would like to say to them,

“YOU are ONE OF US.”

The LouCity Ladies have set up a special page on their website for this giveaway where you can learn about the history of the St.Louligans, information on their charity of choice and all the details on how to win this Box of Silliness. Page will go LIVE this evening at 6pm est.

Giveaway entry period is October 30 – November 6, 2020.

The winner will be announced live on the LouCity Ladies Instagram at 6 p.m. EST November 8, 2020 and the box will be mailed to the winner the following day.

About Massey

Massey is a Mississippi native who resides in Denver, Colorado now. She has loved soccer on and off since preschool where she played for the Tigers and the Lightning Bugs.

She’s followed the USWNT since the 2008 Olympics.  Although new to the Lou City family, she has enjoyed watching and cheering the lads on. She’s actually new to most of the men’s leagues.

An avid fighter for coverage on women’s sports in the media, Massey is an encyclopedia of WOSO knowledge and can probably answer the questions you may have in the future.

Massey also manages the Twitter account for the LouCity Ladies!

And a huge LouCity fan.

It was 11 o’clock on a Sunday night when I finally finished the last load of the Chinese team’s laundry.

Haha that’s a funny sentence to write. I might not have been feeling the humor at the time, though.

LouCity Lady Capos!

If you missed last Wednesday’s game then you missed a phenomenon. One we haven’t seen at a LouCity game to date. Two of our LouCity Ladies were on the Capo stand leading our fans in cheering on that 4-1 victory over Sporting KC II.

Melissa Potter was the very first woman Capo for the Coopers and is also one of the founding members for the LouCity Ladies. She is currently serving overseas with her wife, Angie, but her legacy lives on. Melissa left a void in the Capo Corp, especially one for female representation, that Katie Harper wanted to fill.

Katie received a lot of encouragement from the Capos, including her husband, to get up on the stand.  Katie says she was nervous about stepping up into the spotlight because she’s generally a very quiet and shy person but loves “building the energy in the stadium to encourage our boys to keep fighting on the field. I don’t participate to be in the spotlight. I genuinely love our team and our fans and just want to try to do my part to make the game-day experience fun and entertaining both on and off the field.”

“(Jorge) said I’ve been ‘training’ for years and that I’m ready. It’s one thing being in the front of the crowd dancing, yelling, and singing loud with your back turned, but facing the other way with eyes on you was kind of intimidating. Last night there were only 3 Capos present, so I thought I’d step up and offer some relief to them…, so I said, ‘What the Heck? And Jorge’s gonna be mad he’s not here tonight to see this!”…But I did it, and it wasn’t so bad. Climbing down the stand in my boot was scary though!”
